The Herd

Hay Hey

Hay Hey Go in Spirit (Hay Hey for short) is a fourteen year old standard bred former racer. She stands 15+ hands and despite her sweet temperment with people, she doesn’t put up with nonsense from the other horses. Hay Hey’s favorite treats are unshelled peanutes and apples. She also is a clown in the water trough splashing around.

Hershey

Hershey is a ten-year old gentle, petite mare with a lot of juice when she turns it on. She joined the herd in October 2024 and has just started competing with one of our students this winter. Hershey loves attention and is the first to come see you in the pasture. She adores apples and is a bit greedy at snack time.

Nothing but Daisies

Nothing but Daisies (Nothing for short) is a mid-teens mix breed who is a bit camera shy, but always up for a lesson or a trail ride. She is a tough cookie and doesn’t let any of the other horses push her around. As soon as you let her out of the stall and runout, she finds a sandy spot in the pasture to roll around and scratch her back.

Rusty

Rusty is a twenty-year old gelding who fancies himself a stallion. He is well-muscled and impossible to move when plants his feet. Luckily, he has a wonderful disposition and aims to please his rider and all the barn crew. He joined the herd in October 2024 and quickly demonstrated his prowess on the trails. When not out working, he likes to hang out with his best buddy Tulsa.

Sweetie

Sweetie

Sweetie is a five year old mare who belongs to the Frazer family. She joined the barn family Christmas Day 2024 as a gift for her girl, Lucy. Sweetie is the perfect name for this horse as she has a kind heart and adores attention from people. She loves to be groomed and has finally figured out that apples and carrots are pretty tasty. When Sweetie is out in the pasture, watch out as she is fast as a rocket! We can’t wait to see how she and Lucy do when they start competing!

Takoda

Takoda is ten year old gelding with grullo coloring who belongs to the Mullins family. This big boy came to the barn in August 2024 and quickly climbed the pecking order. He loves to ride the trails with his mom and is partial to apples and carrots.

Tulsa

Tulsa came to the barn in January 2024 and soon became a favorite of all our students because of her outstanding gait and responsiveness in the saddle. Although she can be a bit pushy on the ground, she’s slowly learning her manners and is outstanding on the trail. Tulsa’s favorite past time is taking a nap after supper in the corner of her stall in the breeze of her fan or hanging out with her buddy Rusty.

Popcorn

Kernel

Popcorn and Kernel are minis (mother and daughter) who are mischievious and frequently find themselves tangled up in vines and brush as they let their curiousity take them into unchartered territory. Although they’re small, they both view themselves as equal to the big horses and are vocal about being left behind when the others leave for the trail!

MAC

MAC (Mouse Always Caught) joined the barn family in December 2024 thanks to friends who found her abondoned near their home. She has quickly demonstrated a hunting instinct and eliminated all the mice from the tack room within days. MAC also has an intrepid sense of adventure and often finds herself in precarious positions at the top of trees or along the rafters of the barn. She is intrgued by the horses but doesen’t seem to realize they could easily crush her so teases them regularly.
